About the home page...

So that you can start using The Guardian/Observer Archive straight away, we've put a Quick Search box on the home page:

1. Type what you want to look for in the search box.
2. Click the Search button.
3. A List of Results page will appear listing the news articles that match your search terms.

Note: the Quick Search feature searches all articles in The Guardian/Observer Archive published within the last 3-9 months. Use the Advanced Search page to search for older articles or restrict your search to a particular newspaper or magazine.

We've grouped all the links that let you access or search the content of the service on this page, too.

There is also a Quick Search box available at the top of the List of Results, List of Articles, View Newspaper Issue and Full Article pages.

How do I search for words that are related in meaning or spelling?

When you do a search from the Home page, The Guardian/Observer Archive will automatically search for words that are similar in meaning or spelling to your search terms. For example, typing in 'color' will retrieve instances of the word 'colour' as well as instances of the word 'color'. Similarly, typing in 'farmer' will also retrieve instances of the words 'farming', 'farm' etc.

What else is available from the Home page?

As well as being able to search The Guardian/Observer Archive from the Home page, we have also included a set of links that allow you to access The Guardian/Observer Archive content in a variety of useful ways:

• Advanced Search: This page gives you more control over your searches- for example, you can restrict your search to a particular article title or writer.
• View Newspaper Issue: you can browse the articles included in a particular issue of your chosen newspaper or magazine.
• About The Guardian/Observer Archive: this area contains information about the service, what it contains, what it can help you do and so on.
• User Resources: contains general information and links to resources for subscribers.
